Conservation Competition! 2025

A special Thank You to
UK-Caving!

They are hosting this event on their forum.
&
UK-Caving are sponsoring
The FIRST PLACE PRIZE
which is: FULL SRT KIT!
Worth a Whopping £590
For the Individual Category!

Currently, we are suspending the prize giveaway until 2026.

All current entrants and participants will keep all their interactions and reports until next year, which means those who started this year will have higher scores next year.
Dougie89 & Kendal Caving Club are leading the march forward!

This is due to our success in negotiating access to many locations that have previously had no access, because of lost access through previous landowners who have failed to come to an agreement.

We pride ourselves on our negotiating skills, and we are currently negotiating with many landowners for access to locations which have previously been no-go zones for cavers!

A Big reveal is coming at the end of
Q4-2025 to Q1-2026! So we will be holding the prize giveaway at Hidden Earth in 2026!

This is due to ongoing negotiations with landowners, as we agree to take the responsibility of making sure they are cared for and not damaged any further.

When we talk about access, we mean access for all, and these things take time.

Many landowners love our approach to access as it is one where we take a stance of: If it gets damaged, they can call The Big Underground CleanUp, and we will do all we can to make sure the location is cared for.

Awards, Cash, & Caving Gear To Be Won!

What is
The Descent Magazine’s Adopt-A-Cave List?

Photo by Mark, Photo is Chris Scaife, Editor for Descent Magazine!

“To Quote” (Descent Magazine)
The Descent Adopt-a-Cave scheme started in 1977 and aims to encourage the preservation of the underground environment.

Total-to-date: 121 sites have been adopted by 83 clubs

Caves are adopted by individuals or clubs who wish to help.

This scheme does not confer any rights, or help with access, but it does show that you care.

The Big Underground Clean-up, & Adoption List, is incorporating Descent Magazine's Adopt-a-Cave list.

Which currently has over 1.000 locations in the UK, on the list including Caves & Mines.

Individuals and/or clubs can volunteer to adopt these locations.

So what are our goals with the new evolved list?

  • The preservation of our favourite locations for future generations.

  • Being able to track which locations need a clean-up arranged.

  • Being able to track caves and mines that are voluntarily adopted by caving clubs and/or individuals.

  • Tracking conservation efforts by clubs and individuals.

  • Incentivise conservation efforts.

  • Boosting community engagement in conservation.

  • Have awards with prizes.
